Nicole Ziccarelli
The district attorney in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, will soon have her first female attorney in the office, replacing longtime incumbent John Peck. The new district attorney says she will treat every case with respect and seriousness. Peck served in the office for 27 years and personally tried the majority of the county’s major cases. Her campaign promises to bring a fresh perspective and new energy to the office.
She is a lifelong resident of Westmoreland County, PA, and graduated from Saint Vincent College with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminal Justice. Previously, she served as the Westmoreland County Clerk of Courts and is the second woman in republican history to hold a row office. She has spent nearly two decades working for the Clerk of Court’s office, serving as a fiscal/operations manager and chief deputy clerk.
Megan Loughner
As the first woman elected to a Westmoreland County district attorney’s office, Megan Loughner is committed to serving the people of her county. She will work to protect the rights of residents and collect restitution for crime victims. As a Republican, she is fiscally responsible and supports the 2nd Amendment. She has a long-standing family legacy of law enforcement, as her father and husband are both police officers. She is now running for the Westmoreland County Coroner’s office.
Megan Loughner is a Unity Township resident and served as a deputy district attorney before being elected to the Westmoreland County district attorney. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and criminal justice from Saint Vincent College. Previously, Megan served as a deputy clerk of courts for the Westmoreland County government. She also served as Chief Deputy Clerk of Courts for over a decade.
Assistant district attorney position
The District Attorney of Westmoreland County is a state-level criminal prosecutor who oversees the prosecution of cases in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. A District Attorney’s responsibilities include conducting jury trials, bench trials, juvenile hearings, and post-trial litigation. A District Attorney is also responsible for advising law enforcement officers on criminal cases, conducting pretrial litigation, and interviewing witnesses and victims. The office also protects criminal convictions through appeals. The position is open to experienced and newly admitted attorneys, although the successful candidate must establish residency in Westmoreland County within six months of admission. Successful candidates will be prohibited from practicing law outside of Westmoreland County.
In addition to serving as Westmoreland County commissioners, Thomas C. Madden and E. C. Mumford were elected to their first terms as district attorneys in 2014. The incumbent, John Peck, was elected by the residents of Westmoreland County in 1989. He tried most of the county’s major cases and served as the county’s lead prosecutor for almost two decades.
Nicole McLaughlin is an outstanding candidate for the position of Assistant District Attorney in Westmoreland County. She is a graduate of Penn State Dickinson School of Law and served as a law clerk for a former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice. She also practiced as a defense attorney at Dickie McCamey & Chilcote P.C. and has a law practice in New Kensington. She has also served as a guardian ad lite for a minor child in need.
